HAPPENINGS AND EVENTS ACROSS DISTRICT 12
Had the opportunity to take an extensive tour of Cherry Hospital, one of three psychiatric hospitals in our great state. I enjoyed speaking with Cherry Hospital Clinical Director, Dr. James Mayo and staff about the quality treatments and services provided to all residents. The hospital provides services to 38 counties, as well as patients from their teens to their eighties. I’m proud that Cherry Hospital provides excellent resources to the citizens of eastern North Carolina.
Started off the New Year by meeting with the Secretary of the Department of Environmental Quality, Michael Regan. Enjoyed our time discussing plans to create a BRIGHTER FUTURE for the citizens of District 12.
Started off the week by meeting with North Carolina State Superintendent, Mark Johnson. I am looking forward to working closely with Superintendent Johnson to create a BRIGHTER FUTURE.
Rep. Strickland and I spent a productive morning with Eddie Parrish, President of the North Carolina Association of Fire Equipment Distributors, at the Benson Fire Department. This gathering provided valuable and timely information about the fire protection industry in North Carolina, specifically the regulation of fire suppression systems.
Took the opportunity to meet with North Carolina State Auditor, Beth Wood. I am looking forward to working with Auditor Wood to create a BRIGHTER FUTURE.

Started off the week by meeting with North Carolina State Treasurer, Dale Folwell. I am looking forward to working closley with Treasurer Folwell to create a BRIGHTER FUTURE.

The Johnston County GOP hosted a successful Volunteer Appreciation Dinner to celebrate the hard work of folks who gifted their time on the campaign trail, during early voting and on Election Day. Because of you, we were able to reach folks throughout District 12 and share with them about a “brighter future.” Simply said, “thank you.”
Ann and I had a wonderful time riding in the annual Angier Christmas Parade. Always heartwarming to see folks from the community come together to celebrate the Christmas season. I especially enjoyed taking selfies with those in attendance. Also grateful for the opportunity to ride in the Dunn Christmas Parade. The rain couldn't dampen the holiday spirit.
Started off the holiday season at the Angier Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony last evening. Enjoyed Christmas carols, hot chocolate, and Santa Claus made a special appearance. Always an enjoyable time at this annual holiday event.
Took the opportunity to meet with Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Mandy Cohen, and NC DHHS Assistant Secretary for Government Affairs, Matt Gross. I am looking forward to working with them to create a BRIGHTER FUTURE.
Not waiting until January to start serving District 12. Yesterday, I took the opportunity to attend session and meet with folks at the General Assembly in Raleigh. Ready to officially get started!
Last night, Ann and I attended the Lee County GOP meeting in Sanford. It was a productive evening filled with good food, fun and fellowship as we celebrated the accomplishments of local candidates and the hard work of volunteers.
Thankful to have celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends, as well as John Hiester Chevrolet of Fuquay Varina. I was honored to give the invocation at this community event as we enjoyed fellowship and good food.
Last night I attended the Consumer Family Advisory Committee meeting in Smithfield. Thank you to the committee for sharing your concerns about mental healthcare. Mental health reform is a concern for all of our citizens in District 12 and remains a priority for me.
Spent a wonderful evening at Ed’s Family Restaurant celebrating all of the Harnett County GOP volunteers. It was a night filled with good food, fun and fellowship. Thank you to an amazing group of dedicated individuals! We could not do it without you. We appreciate all of your hard work and time spent door knocking, calling local voters, and passing out the golden ballots this election season. Because of you, we were able to reach folks throughout District 12 and share with them about a brighter future. Simply said, “thank you.”
Today marks the 150th anniversary of our North Carolina Constitution. The John Locke Foundation presented a special lecture series entitled the “History and Significance of the 1869 Constitution of North Carolina” held at Campbell School of Law in Raleigh. Michael Curtis, professor of Constitutional Law at Wake Forest University, was the featured speaker.
It was a perfect day for the Benhaven Elementary School Dedication in Sanford. I enjoyed touring the school and viewing the safety measures that will aid to keep our students, faculty and administration safe.
Spent a wonderful evening at Golden Corral in Smithfield with the Johnston County Republican Women’s Club. The night was filled with good food, fun and fellowship as we celebrated the successes of local candidates and the hard work of volunteers.
Learned more about the NCDOT’s plans for road expansion and traffic flow in Angier. This gathering provided valuable and timely information for many residents who will be affected by these changes.
What a heartfelt event at John Hiester Chevrolet of Fuquay-Varina, honoring our own local heroes. These brave men and women serve us 24/7 keeping our communities safe. Thank you to our local police, fire departments and first-responders for all that you do everyday for every citizen.
Enjoyed attending the Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner honoring Mr. David Levinson. We appreciate all that he has done and continues to do. His generosity enriches and supports the Harnett County community.
It was an honor to attend “A Salute to Our Veterans” presented by Johnston County Public High Schools in Smithfield. This student led celebration paid tribute to all the men and women who have bravely, selflessly and faithfully served in the United States Armed Forces.God bless our veterans and God bless the United States of America.
I am humbled and thankful for the prayers of Pastor Dalton, the deacons and the church body of Crossroads Church in Lillington. It was a special moment of dedication as I prepare to serve all citizens of District 12 in Raleigh.
On Sunday evening, Ann and I attended a beautiful celebration in honor of our nation's veterans held at Hood Memorial Church in Dunn. I was honored to speak at this Veteran's Day Concert and share with the attendees about what I learned from a WWII veteran, my father. Thank you and may God bless each of the men and women who have served to protect our freedoms.
I was honored to spend Saturday morning with a few of America’s heroes at the Lee County GOP Headquarters in Sanford. I enjoyed having breakfast with our veterans and listening not only to their stories, but to their concerns. Veterans, I thank you for your service for our country.
Spent a productive evening at the NCDOT I-95 widening meeting in Benson. This gathering provided valuable information for residents of Harnett and Johnston Counties.
Spent the morning exploring and traveling through time during my visit to the Benson Museum of Local History in downtown Benson. I enjoyed speaking with and listening to some amazing folks during the museum coffee hour while sharing about a BRIGHTER FUTURE.
The evening of Tuesday, November 6, 2018 was a night to remember. Ann and I enjoyed spending time with our family, friends and loved ones, as we waited for the results of the November 2018 Election at the Brighter Future Election Watch Party. Thank you to everyone who joined us and cast their ballot for JIM BURGIN NC SENATE DISTRICT 12. Together we will create a BRIGHTER FUTURE.
It was a perfect day for the 20th Annual NC Cotton Festival in downtown Dunn. Enjoyed meeting so many folks and sharing about a BRIGHTER FUTURE.
Enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Crossroads Church of Lillington's annual Fall Festival. It was a spooktacular night filled with food, fun and fellowship!

Big thank you to Mr. Linwood and Mrs. Shirley Jones for hosting the "Finish Strong Dinner" at Linshire by the Pond. It was a successful event with a packed house last evening. Ann and I enjoyed the food, fun and fellowship at this community event.

Attended an amazing presentation by Director of the Middle East Forum, Gregg Roman, at Patriot Hall in Anderson Creek. He presented the "Israel Victory Project" which is focused on creating a massive societal shift by breaking-down constructed narratives within the Middle East.

It was a beautiful fall day for the Coats Farmer’s Day Golf Tournament at Chicora Golf Club. I enjoyed speaking with all of the players and attendees at this successful event. Special thank you to Mrs. Pat Godwin and the Coats Area Chamber of Commerce for the invitation to take part in this annual golf tournament.
I was honored to emcee Singing for S.A.F.E. Candlelight Vigil and Benefit Concert. Lives have been needlessly lost and changed because of domestic violence. Longterm anger and depression may lead to violence directed towards someone you love. Mental health reform is a necessity now and one of my three focus issues.
Enjoyed the fish, shrimp and of course the hushpuppies at Sheriff Wayne Coats' meet & greet on Saturday. The afternoon was filled with food and fellowship while supporting our Sheriff Wayne Coats.
This week Ann and I attended the Anderson Creek Club Woman's Club at Patriot Hall. We learned vital information from guest speaker, Dr. Kerry Agnello’s presentation on Self-Care. Thank you ACCWC for your invitation and for all that you do to enrich and support the community and beyond.
Grateful to attend the Pink Ribbon Breakfast presented by the Harnett County Health Department at Campbell University. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As a husband, father and grandfather, I understand the importance of Women's Health. Awareness and education are key.

Chief Health and Medical Officer at NASA Headquarters, Dr. JD Polk, provided a fascinating lecture for medical students and attendees at Campbell University’s School of Osteopathic Medicine. The lecture was focused on how spaceflight impacts the health of astronauts.
Amazing entertainment and delicious food were both served at last night's Bless Your Heart Dinner & Show in Angier. This annual event supports the Harnett Health Foundation whose mission is to strengthen and improve the quality of life for every person that seeks healthcare with Harnett Health Systems.

Ann and I sampled food from all over the world yesterday at North Carolina Cooperative Extension - Harnett County's International Soup & Sandwich Day. The delicious luncheon was held in support of the NC ECA’s continued efforts to improve the quality of life for local individuals and families through education, leadership training and community service.
On Saturday, The Battle of the Badges was held in support of the Harnett County Sheriff's Office Youth Activities League. Excitement and cheers filled the Pope Convocation Center at Campbell University, as the contenders took to the ring. I even had the opportunity to step inside the ring and share about my plans "FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE."

Today, I stopped by the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center in Lillington. Workers are ready and prepared to help anyone affected by Hurricane Florence get on the road to recovery. Representatives at the center will explain available assistance programs and help connect survivors with resources that best match their recovery needs.
BBQ, friends and special speakers made up the enjoyable event at Senator Brent Jackson's, "An Evening on the Farm" in Autryville. Honored to support my friend and candidate Senator Brent Jackson-District 10.
Spent Thursday evening with some great folks at the Harnett County Republican Headquarters. With only three weeks until Early Voting we stayed busy prepping information for District 12 voters. Even had the chance to meet constituents, listen to their concerns, and share with them my plan for A BRIGHTER FUTURE.

Spent Friday afternoon enjoying hotdogs and hamburgers with some amazing folks from Harnett County who dropped by the John Hiester Chevrolet Hurricane Relief Community Cookout Fundraiser for those impacted by Hurricane Florence. Thank you to all who donated. Together we can make a "Brighter Future."
Enjoyed the opportunity to attend and speak at the Johnston County Republican Women’s meeting in Smithfield Thursday evening. I shared with the attendees how together we can make “A Brighter Future” through focused and timely legislation, specifically education, mental health reform and rural job creation.
Today, I visited with the volunteers at Crossroads Church, Lillington, NC where they are collecting donations for those affected by Hurricane Florence. My wife and I have already donated supplies and we are encouraging everyone who can to donate.
